Monte Cristo Sliders

Monte Cristo Sliders (Crispy, Cheesy, Sweet & Savory – Perfect for Any Occasion)

Monte Cristo Sliders are a miniature version of the classic Monte Cristo sandwich. Made with soft, sweet dinner rolls, layers of deli ham and turkey, gooey Swiss cheese, and a sweet, golden crust, these sliders are perfect for brunch, casual get-togethers, or any meal that needs a delicious, bite-sized treat. The combination of savory ham, turkey, and melted cheese, with a hint of sweetness from maple syrup, makes these sliders irresistible.

Ingredients:

  • 12-pack of dinner rolls (Hawaiian rolls are a great choice for a sweeter flavor)
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 8 slices deli turkey (or chicken, if you prefer)
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese (or your choice of cheese like cheddar, provolone, or Gruyère)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (for an extra zing of flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (for creaminess, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing and brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (adds extra flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional, for extra depth of flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (for a sweet finish)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat and Prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Arrange the dinner rolls in the dish, keeping them in their connected form (i.e., don’t pull them apart yet, just place them in the dish as a whole block).

2. Slice and Assemble:

  • Using a serrated knife, slice the dinner rolls horizontally, cutting them in half so you have a top half and a bottom half, but keeping them connected as one block.
  • Spread Dijon mustard on the bottom half of the rolls, followed by a thin layer of mayonnaise if you like a creamy texture.
  • Layer 2 slices of ham on top of the bottom half of the rolls.
  • Add 2 slices of turkey or chicken on top of the ham.
  • Place 1 slice of Swiss cheese on top of the turkey.
  • Place the top halves of the rolls back onto the sandwiches, gently pressing down to seal the sliders together.

3. Make the Butter Mixture:

  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add garlic powder and onion powder to the butter, stirring to combine.
  • Brush the melted butter mixture generously over the tops of the sliders.

4. Add Maple Syrup:

  • Drizzle maple syrup lightly over the tops of the rolls. This adds a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with the savory ham and cheese.

5. Bake the Sliders:

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese inside is melted and the rolls are soft.
  • After 10–12 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 3–5 minutes to allow the tops of the sliders to become golden and crispy.

6. Slice and Serve:

  • Once baked, remove the sliders from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  • Cut the sliders into individual pieces along the seams of the dinner rolls.
  • Optional: Dust the tops lightly with powdered sugar for that classic Monte Cristo presentation.

Tips & Variations:

  • Cheese Options: You can experiment with different cheeses like Gruyère, cheddar, or pepper jack for a spicier kick.
  • Meat Substitutes: If you don’t like turkey or ham, you can substitute them with roast beef, chicken, or even vegetarian deli slices.
  • Healthier Options: Use whole wheat rolls, low-fat cheese, and lean turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Extra Flavor: Add a slice of tomato or spinach for some freshness and color.
  • Air Fryer Method: If you prefer using an air fryer, place the sliders in the air fryer basket, brush with the butter mixture, and cook at 350°F (175°C) for about 8-10 minutes, checking to ensure the cheese has melted and the top is golden and crispy.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve these Monte Cristo Sliders fresh from the oven with a side of crispy fries, coleslaw, or a simple green salad to balance the richness. They also pair well with refreshing drinks like iced tea, lemonade, or even a chilled white wine if you’re serving them for a brunch or special occasion.

  • Brunches: Serve these sliders as a fun and tasty twist on your traditional brunch dishes.
  • Party Appetizers: These sliders are bite-sized and perfect for passing around at parties, gatherings, or game days.
  • Family Meals: Quick and easy to make, they’re a hit with both kids and adults alike. Everyone will love the cheesy, savory flavor and the sweet, crispy topping.
