Ground Beef with Onion Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley and cilantro, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
- Chili flakes or chili paste (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients
Before you start cooking, prepare all your ingredients. Dice the onion into small, even pieces, mince the garlic, and measure out your spices. Having everything ready will make the cooking process smooth and enjoyable.
Step 2: Cook the onion
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the diced onion. Cook for about 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft, translucent, and lightly golden. This step builds the base flavor of the dish.
Step 3: Add garlic and spices
Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it. Add the ginger, black pepper, turmeric, cumin (if using), and salt. Stir well so the spices evenly coat the onions and release their aroma.
Step 4: Cook the ground beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the meat apart into small pieces. Cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink. Let some of the moisture evaporate so the meat can lightly brown and develop more flavor.
Step 5: Final seasoning and herbs
Once the beef is cooked, taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Stir in the chopped parsley and cilantro, and add chili flakes or chili paste if you like a bit of spice. Let everything cook together for another 2–3 minutes so the flavors combine well.
Serving Suggestions:
- Serve over white rice or brown rice

- Use as a base for stuffed vegetables like peppers or zucchini
Tips for Best Results:
- Use ground beef with a little fat (80/20) for better flavor
