 What is Texas Toast Sloppy Joes?

Texas Toast Sloppy Joes is a delicious American comfort food made with savory ground beef cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce, served on thick, buttery Texas Toast. The toast is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect for holding the juicy sloppy joe filling. This easy recipe is great for lunch, dinner, or family meals.

 Ingredients

 Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 lb (500 g) ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth

 Texas Toast:

  • Texas Toast slices (or thick-cut white bread)
  • Butter, softened
  • Garlic (optional)
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

Instructions

1 Prepare the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent.
  3. Add garlic and bell pepper, cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  5. Drain excess grease if needed.

2 Make the Sauce:

  1. Stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, and mustard.
  2. Add paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  3. Pour in water or broth and mix well.
  4. Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes until thick and flavorful.

3 Prepare the Texas Toast:

  1. Mix butter with a little garlic (optional).
  2. Spread butter on both sides of the toast.
  3. Toast in the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5–7 minutes until golden.
  4. Sprinkle cheese on top and return to oven until melted.

4 Assemble:

  • Spoon a generous amount of sloppy joe filling over the Texas toast.
  • Add extra cheese if desired.
  • Serve hot and enjoy
