Savory Chinese-Style Ground Beef with Tender Cabbage and Garlic-Ginger Sauce

- 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
- 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional but recommended)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
Garlic-Ginger Sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar (or brown sugar)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- ¼ cup water or beef broth
Cornstarch Slurry (for thickening)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions
1 Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and water.
- In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with cold water until smooth.
- Set both aside.
2 Cook the Ground Beef
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add vegetable oil, then add ground beef.
- Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart, until fully browned.
- Drain excess fat if needed.
3 Add Aromatics
- Push the beef to one side of the pan.
- Add sesame oil to the empty side.
- Add onion, garlic, and ginger.
- Stir-fry for 30–60 seconds until fragrant (do not burn).
4 Add the Cabbage
- Add the sliced cabbage to the pan.
- Toss everything together and cook for 3–5 minutes, until the cabbage softens but still has a slight crunch.
5 Add Sauce & Thicken
- Pour the prepared garlic-ginger sauce over the beef and cabbage.
- Stir well and let simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add the cornstarch slurry and stir constantly.
- Cook another 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats everything beautifully.
6 Final Touch
- Taste and adjust seasoning (more soy sauce or pepper if needed).
- Remove from heat.
