Perfect for busy weeknights, game day, or when you want something hearty without a lot of cleanup.

 Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • 1½–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Colby-Jack blend)
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions

 Instructions

Step 1: Brown the Beef

Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease if needed.

Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 2: Make the Sloppy Joe Base

Stir in:

  • Sloppy joe sauce
  • Ketchup (if using)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Paprika
  • Salt and black pepper

Mix well and let the beef mixture simmer for 5 minutes so the flavors combine.

Step 3: Add the Tater Tots

Spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the sloppy joe mixture in the skillet. Do not thaw the tots.

Step 4: Bake

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Place the skillet in the oven and bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.

Step 5: Add Cheese

Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the tater tots.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 6: Serve

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.

Serve hot straight from the skillet.
