  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups milk

 Instructions

1 Make the Chocolate Filling

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sugar and stir until slightly dissolved.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cocoa powder until smooth and lump-free.
  4. Gradually add the milk while whisking constantly.
  5. Continue cooking, stirring nonstop, until the mixture thickens into a smooth chocolate custard (about 8–10 minutes).

Temper the Egg Yolks

  1. In a bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks.
  2. Slowly add a few spoonfuls of the hot chocolate mixture into the yolks, whisking continuously.
  3. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan.
  4. Cook for 2–3 more minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

2 Assemble the Pie

  • Immediately pour the hot chocolate filling into the baked pie crust.
  • Smooth the top with a spatula.

3 Prepare the Meringue

  1. In a clean bowl, beat egg whites with salt until soft peaks form.
  2. Gradually add sugar while beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  3. Mix in vanilla extract.

4 Top the Pie

  • Spread the meringue over the warm chocolate filling.
  • Make sure the meringue touches the crust edges to seal it.
  • Use a spoon to create decorative peaks.

5 Bake the Meringue

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the meringue is lightly golden.

 Cooling & Serving

  • Allow the pie to cool completely at room temperature.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing.
  • Serve plain or with a cup of coffee or milk.

Tips for Best Results

  • Always place meringue on hot filling to prevent shrinking.
  • Stir the chocolate filling constantly to avoid burning.
  • For clean slices, wipe the knife between cuts.
