Homemade Big Mac

Homemade Big Ma–Style Sauce (Copycat Recipe)

This creamy, tangy, slightly sweet sauce is inspired by the famous Big Mac sauce. It’s incredibly easy to make at home using simple pantry ingredients, and it tastes even better after resting in the fridge. Perfect for burgers, sandwiches, wraps, fries, or as a dipping sauce.

 Prep Time

  • 10 minutes active prep
  • 30 minutes resting time (recommended)

Yield

  • About ¾ cup sauce

 Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
Use full-fat mayo for the creamiest and most authentic flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons bottled French salad dressing
This adds the signature color and tangy-sweet taste. Classic orange-style French dressing works best.
  • 1½ tablespoons sweet pickle relish
Provides sweetness and crunch. Make sure it’s finely chopped.
  • 1½ tablespoons white onion, very finely minced
The onion should be almost paste-like so it blends smoothly into the sauce.
  • 1½ teaspoons apple cider vinegar
Adds brightness and balances the richness of the mayonnaise.
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
Enhances the sweetness and mimics the fast-food flavor profile.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Adjust to taste depending on your mayonnaise and relish.
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
    Adds mild heat and depth.

 Instructions

  1. Combine the base ingredients
In a small to medium mixing bowl, add the mayonnaise, French dressing, and sweet pickle relish.
  2. Add flavor boosters
Stir in the finely minced white onion, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Mix thoroughly
Use a spoon or small whisk to mix everything together until the sauce is completely smooth and evenly combined.
  4. Rest the sauce
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the sauce to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
This step is important—it allows the flavors to meld and develop.
  5. Taste and adjust
After chilling, taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed (more salt, sugar, or vinegar).

How to Use Big Mac Sauce

  • Spread on burgers (especially double cheeseburgers)
  • Use on sandwiches and sliders
  • Drizzle inside wraps or shawarma
  • Serve as a dip for fries, nuggets, or onion rings
  • Add to chicken burgers or grilled chicken sandwiches

 Tips & Variations

  • For extra authenticity, mince the onion extremely fine or grate it.
  • Want it tangier? Add a few drops of pickle juice.
  • Want it sweeter? Add a pinch more sugar.
  • For a smokier twist, add a tiny pinch of paprika.
  • Keeps well in the fridge for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
