Warm Baked Apple Fritters (Soft, Cinnamon-Spiced & Cozy)
These Warm Baked Apple Fritters are the perfect comfort treat for chilly mornings or relaxed afternoons. They’re soft and fluffy on the inside, lightly golden on the outside, and packed with tender apples coated in warm cinnamon spice. Unlike fried fritters, these are baked, making them lighter but still incredibly delicious. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert with a cup of coffee or tea.
Ingredients
For the fritters:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional but recommended)
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk (room temperature)
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup melted butter (or vegetable oil)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups apples, peeled and finely diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
For the glaze (optional but ):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it. - Prepare the apples:
Peel, core, and finely dice the apples into small pieces so they soften nicely while baking. Set aside. - Mix dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. - Mix wet ingredients:
In another bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. - Combine:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined.
Do not overmix — the batter should be thick and slightly lumpy. - Fold in apples:
Gently fold the diced apples into the batter until evenly distributed. - Shape the fritters:
Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop mounds of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
Slightly flatten the tops for even baking. - Bake:
Bake for 14–18 minutes, or until the fritters are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. - Cool slightly:
Let the fritters cool for about 5 minutes before glazing.
Optional Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters or dip the tops for extra sweetness.
- Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
