 Ingredients

 For the Main Filling:

  • 1 lb (450–500g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup celery, sliced thin
  • 1 cup carrots, julienned or thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots mix
  • 1 can (about 225g) water chestnuts, drained and sliced (optional, for crunch)
  • 6–8 oz chow mein noodles or cooked spaghetti

 For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (optional)

 Optional Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Crunchy chow mein noodles (for topping)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

 Instructions

 Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Lightly grease a casserole dish with oil or butter to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat:

  • Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Break it apart using a spatula as it cooks.
  • Drain excess fat to keep the dish from becoming greasy.

Then add:

  • Chopped onion
  • Garlic
  • Ginger (if using)

Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and softened.

 Step 3: Add Vegetables

Add the vegetables in stages:

  • First, add carrots and celery and cook for about 3–4 minutes.
  • Then add cabbage, mushrooms, and peas.

Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender but still have a bit of crunch. This helps them keep texture after baking.

Step 4: Prepare the Sauce

In a separate bowl, whisk together:

  • Beef broth
  • Soy sauce
  • Oyster sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • Cornstarch

Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir well.
Let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly and coats the meat and vegetables.

 Step 5: Combine with Noodles

Add your cooked noodles directly into the skillet.
Toss everything together until the noodles are fully coated in the sauce and evenly mixed with the beef and vegetables.

 Step 6: Assemble the Casserole

  • Transfer the mixture into your prepared baking dish.
  • Spread it evenly.

Optional:

  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top for a creamy finish
  • Add crunchy chow mein noodles for texture

Step 7: Bake

Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until:

  • The top is slightly golden
  • The casserole is heated through

 Step 8: Rest and Serve

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Serve warm and enjoy!

 Tips for Best Results
